The Seagull's Laughter [2 of 11]
BackThe Seagull's Laughter is a mystery, satire and coming of age story (dramatic and funny), with the central character Agga (Ugla Egilsdóttir) growing while observing her mysterious cousin Freyja (Margrét Vilhjálmsdóttir), who may have murdered at least two men, and her struggles with the class system. Freyja, a beautiful widow, returns home to a fishing village in post-WWII Iceland after living in the USA and turns everyone's life upside down. The film was adapted from Kristín Marja Baldursdóttir's first novel, Mávahlátur (Seagulls' Laughter), published in 1995. It was adapted for the stage and performed at the Reykjavík City Theatre in 1998. The film version premiered in Reykjavík in 2001 and swept the board at Iceland's Edda Film and TV Awards that year.
