I don't think it's about a specific person, or a specific point in history... i think the lyrics are clearly speaking out against anyone who imposes their will on other people... and the lyrics are so broadly (and brilliantly) written that they can really be applied to this situation in any point in history. Right now when I listen to this song, all I can think about is prop 8 in california....

Politicians in general are mostly evil. It's not their fault, the system becomes evil with time, and they are a part of the system. Were the founding fathers alive, they would want to overthrow this system, this government. Lobbyists and big money has the power. We the people, no longer matter. The tree of liberty needs to be pruned.
