The last time I flew I was sitting by the engines when a Yellowjacket was buzzing around the intake. He got sucked in but uh no flames!

When it's a no-fault accident (the bird isn't smart enough to move, and the plane can't), you can call it either way. Besides, if the bird had been flying straight for the plane, it could definitely be called either. And if we call it "plane-strike" - great - WHAT did the plane strike? So "bird-strike" is the simplest way to describe it... I mean, if you're going to make petty arguments, so will I. ;-)
